Sports are for everyone. It is a human right to be treated in an equal and respectful way. This gives everyone an equal chance to experience the benefits that sports have to offer. Every athlete should be able to play sports with respect for each other, regardless of differences.
At GHBS we believe that the accessibility of a sport (in general) should not be limited based on diversity characteristics. Based on the idea that sport should not be exclusive and has added value for everyone physically, mentally and socially. This requires awareness and action.
GHBS and the KNHB want everyone to have fun on and around the hockey field. Whether you are a player, trainer/coach, referee, volunteer, parent or fan, or simply not yet familiar with hockey. Unfortunately, we realize that not everyone feels welcome in hockey. That is why the KNHB pays attention to diversity & inclusion. Diversity is about the mix of differences between people. Being open to each other and accepting that everyone is who they are. Inclusion does not only mean that you are welcome somewhere, but also that you feel welcome.
From GHBS we have the Inclusion Team that is committed to more diversity and inclusion within our association. If you have any questions about this topic or would like to say something about it, please email inclusie@ghbs.nl.
